Current Activities


Dr. Keren Omry, university lecturer and expert in U.S. Black history, gave a multimedia presentation on Afro-American music within the contexts of the Civil Rights movement to high school students from Bedouin and Jewish schools at the American Corner, Beersheva, in February 2009 to commemorate Black History Month.



Will Stevens Assistant Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv gave a multimedia presentation on the American education system to Bedouin students from Amal Lakiya and Segev Shalom high schools at the American Corner, Beersheva, as part of International Education Week programs in November 2008.


On March 10, James Durst a distinguished Folk solo singer/songwriter performed at the American Corner Beersheva for an audience of 100 students from both Jewish and Arab schools in the South. The program included American classics, and Durst succeeded in engaging the audience in some singalongs. Durst delighted the crowd by singing in Arabic and Hebrew. Eventhough this was the first time the audience had been exposed to folk music they expressed an interest in learning more about American music and requested more musical performances in the future.

Gearing up for this year's 231st celebration of American independence on July 4th at the American Corner Beersheva (ACB). Cathy Boukobza, Director of the ACB assists in setting up the display to celebrate this year's festivities. A celebration of freedom, democracy, and independence. This is a day when Americans claimed their independence from Britain in 1776 and 'democracy' was born.
